The Art of a Natural-Looking Hairline: What to Expect From FUE
Some hair transplant methods produce results that look too obvious. But with FUE, you can achieve a natural-looking hairline that will leave everyone guessing.

People have long joked about efforts to hide thinning hair, especially when comb-overs and toupees make it quite obvious. Even hair transplantation techniques, in the wrong hands, can lead to an unnatural hairline or patchy results.

At Vivida Dermatology, our team’s primary goal for hair transplants is to provide you with a natural look. Here’s how we view this challenge and address it with our refined hair restoration techniques.

Hairlines are unique

People often consider the eyes, nose, and facial symmetry to be what makes people unique. Yet the hairline is a big part of the picture. For example, you might notice some people have a V in the center of their hairline, while others have hairlines that go straight across.

Your hairline frames your face and dictates things like the size and shape of your forehead. So if your hairline is thinning or receding, we aim to restore the natural line that complements your face.

FUE versus FUT hair transplantation

One of the ways we ensure that your transplantation looks natural is to steer away from FUT in favor of FUE. FUT stands for follicular unit transplantation, also known as linear strip excision. FUE stands for follicular unit excision.

FUT and its limitations

With FUT, strips of scalp containing hair follicles are harvested from high-growth areas around the back of your head. The average head contains about 100,000 hair follicles, and certain areas resist thinning more than others, making them better donor sites.

Yet when these excised strips are placed around your hairline, it can lead to an unnatural or “pluggy” appearance. It can also leave linear scars in the harvest area.

Why we prefer FUE

FUE is a much more detailed and flexible process in which we transplant hair one or two follicles at a time. While this requires patience on your part and a good deal of hand-eye skill on ours, it creates a hairline that matches your face and won’t scream that you’ve “had work done.” Working with smaller grafts allows us to tailor your hair transplantation better to match your features, giving the appearance that your hair never left.

A natural solution to thinning hair

If you’re one of the millions of Americans with thinning hair — which describes 85% of men and more than half of women — and you’re worried about unnatural results, worry no more.

To see how FUE hair transplantation can give you a hairline you’ll be proud to show off, we invite you to contact one of our offices in Las Vegas or Henderson, Nevada, and St. George, Utah, to schedule an appointment.
