Many people assume that a cosmetic procedure doesn’t demand the same type of expertise as other types of surgery.
But at Vivida Dermatology, we beg to differ. That’s why our board-certified dermatologists ground every cosmetic procedure in the same rigorous medical standards we use throughout our practice — hair restoration being a great example.
Because quality of care directly shapes your results, it’s worth paying attention when selecting a hair restoration surgeon. So, if you’re among the millions of Americans with thinning hair (50 million men and 30 million women in the United States have the most common type of hair loss, androgenetic alopecia), here’s what you should consider.
We first want to emphasize that hair restoration is a real surgical procedure, which should guide how you choose your provider.
Hair restoration requires a skilled surgeon to perform follicular unit excision (FUE). With this technique, we painstakingly remove units of follicles that contain between 1 and 4 hairs each from places where you have more hair, such as around the back of your head, and transplant them into areas where you need hair.
These units are small. To excise them, we use a micro punch tool that removes units that range from 0.7 to 1.2 millimeters in size. This makes the FUE procedure a complex microsurgery that only trusted surgeons should perform.
Choosing the right surgeon matters because bad hair restoration can’t easily be undone. We routinely help clients repair botched hair restoration work, which can include:
As you might imagine, fixing poor hair restoration takes far more effort, which is why we want you to have it done right the first time.
Board certification is one of the clearest signs that your provider is competent in their specialty. At Vivida, not only are our dermatologist physicians all board-certified, but our physician’s assistants are as well, and our nurses and other assistants are formally trained in their fields.
Through rigorous training and testing, our team members not only become board-certified but also keep up with their certifications through continuing education.
Even strong training and certification can’t overcome a lack of experience. Here at Vivida, you can rest assured that your surgeon is not just highly trained but also has a strong record of successful hair restorations under their belt.
We encourage you to ask us about our experience and to share our hair restoration results with you.
